Few things for Wednesday

1) I'm feeling MUCH better today than I was yesterday. This is still definitely the last baby, though. This "feel ok, then feel like crap, then feel ok again" thing is old already.

2) There's been so much controversy on this post lately. I just can't believe the lack of common sense of so many military families here. The civilians being allowed on post (as they have always been) is one of about three major issues that are being discussed hotly among NCO wives here lately.

Another is the housing issue. There are two camps of us. One is like me. Why is it our problem if someone else's husband doesn't have enough rank to get enough house for his family? It's nobody's fault but the individuals who chose to marry low ranking guys and have kid after kid with them. The other side says that the rest of us have forgotten where we came from, and just need to remember what it's like to be a PFC's wife with 3 kids to support, and how hard it was to pay the bills. Is it wrong that I take some amount of offense to the notion that people think I would ever, in ten billion years, marry a PFC? It's just a stupid thing to do, and finanaces aren't the only reason. More importantly than that, when your husband is one of the lowest ranking guys in the unit, you won't know ANYTHING about what's going to happen until the last minute, and if it interferes with something you need, there's no way he'll be able to get out of whatever it is. We NCO wives have tons more notice and a little more leeway sometimes. It's really not my problem if someone else just had to marry a Private and is reaping the, um, rewards of that. Suck it up just as we NCO wives do when our husbands spend Christmas Eve bailing your drunk lower-enlisted husband and his buddies out of jail.

3) Another VERY interesting thing that's going on lately is that the Command Group is considering implementing a post-wide dress code. I think that's an awesome idea. The Army has gone in just a generation, from women in heels and pearls shopping in the commissary, to wives in pajamas with screaming fighting children who are dressed like the homeless. There needs to be a return to decency on post, and I will also add that this post has more inappropriately dressed wives than anywhere else I have ever been in my entire life. If I were really mean like some of my peers, I'd take some pics of these crazy people and show you, but honestly, the mental picture will never leave me, so I figure that's enough. It's awful, and something needs to be done about it. I'm talking about 200 pound women wearing midriff tops and hotpants, some woman wearing a shirt that said "FUCK" really big on the back of it, and even some stuff that makes all that look tame. It's gross, and the Command Group is right to do something about it. This isn't the first time that a military post has implemented a dress code. The Marine Corps has one, force-wide. Even on the Army side, Ft. Stewart implemented one last month. Our Garrison Commander is friends with Ft. Stewart's Garrison Commander, so that's how it began.

The thing that slays me is that a lot of wives are objecting to this. I just don't understand how anyone can defend the right to wear shirts with bad words on them, or to wear pajamas to shop or eat lunch. Gross! How hard is it to get dressed in the morning and to make sure you're free of bad language? It's just common decency. Yes, our Garrison Commander has the right to do this, and frankly, he has the right idea. With it getting so much press that civilians can come to the new restaurants on post, there will be a few who do that. Don't we want them to see the military community at its best, not looking like regulars on Jerry Springer? How can a person actually think that wearing pajamas or nasty stuff in public is a defendable position? Where has people's decency gone? How hard is it to put on some jeans and a shirt that is not offensive to a lot of people? Nobody's asking you to participate in a fashion show, just to get dressed and have some shred of decency about it. I think it says a lot that anyone actually opposes this.

4) And finally a fun one! We go to our first appointment with Alyson tonight!! YAY!! Erin is thrilled since she will get to go, and we might get to hear the heartbeat. Erin made me swear to take her to the first appointment that we would be able to hear the heartbeat, so it works out very well that she doesn't even have to miss school for it. She is so excited about the baby.
