Random thought for today

The CMA's come on tonight. For those who don't know, that's the Country Music Awards. Now, while there are some artists who have been nominated, who are actually good, the majority are totally not. It hit me today that the only ones I actually like of the ones who received nominations are the ones I've known of since long before they hit it big, when they were still playing cotton festivals and bars in southeast Georgia. Still love those guys even if the big record companies have changed them a little... hopefully it doesn't go much further, though.

No, really, if you want to hear good music, you have to get away from what regular radio plays, and step outside of Nashville. A lot of upcoming artists out of Austin are good, and anyone on Ledfurd Recurds out of North Carolina is absolutely kick-ass. You sometimes hear this music on satellite radio, but never on mainstream anymore. I realized that this morning as I was flipping channels (my satellite signal finks out when I get stuck under an overpass) and realized that I absolutely cannot stand what Nashville is mass producing these days.

Oh, and will people SHUT UP already about Garth Brooks making an appearance at the CMA's already?? He sucked in the 90's and he still sucks!! Are there really people in this world who can't see what a giant publicity stunt it is? The same buzz was going on last year, and he didn't show up. My guess is that he'll do this for about three years, then finally be paid an inordinate sum of money just to show up. It's so funny because it's just such BS.

But yeah, seriously, look beyond the mainstream if you want to find what's good. I know this has been true since the beginning of time, but it's just so obvious now. Oh, and get satellite radio. They play stuff the other stations are forbidden from playing, which is most of what the good stuff is anyhow. Remember, if the FCC doesn't want you to hear it, there is a reason for that, and that reason is because it puts everything else out there to shame! ;-)
